Communications & Team Development
Have you ever had a colleague accuse you of being hostile when you thought you were just speaking your mind? Or have you ever said “no” to a suggestion in a way that you thought was perfectly clear, only to have the other person go forward anyway and claim that they didn’t realize you were against it? You may have been frustrated, thinking the people around you were just being difficult, or were bad listeners; the real problem, however, is often a clash of communication styles.
We may all speak the same language, but our differing communication styles often create an invisible language barrier, leading to frustrations, misunderstandings, bad feelings, and lost time. With an understanding of our own communication style and how it differs from those around us, we can learn to communicate more effectively with our team members, our friends and our families. A team or business that operates with an understanding of each individual’s communication style will become more efficient, more cohesive, more positive, and more productive‚a true team, ready to tackle the goals and challenges before them.
The WinningWays Process
The Winning Ways Communication Programs give a dynamic, revealing analysis of communication styles, using well-regarded behavioral assessments to measure crucial differences in the ways people communicate. Our trained behavioral specialists will help you discover your own communication style, then show you how to communicate effectively with others.
So many sources of misunderstanding and miscommunication are common and easy to counteract, once we see how different communication styles relate! Whether you’re an individual looking to improve your personal and professional life, or a business leader looking to strengthen your team, our Communication Workshop will help you build strategies for clear, effective communication, no matter who you’re talking to.
Critical Issues Covered
The DISC assessment is based on time-tested theories from leading behavioral scientist Dr. William M. Marston. It identifies four different behavioral categories:
- Dominance-Challenge: How you respond to problems andchallenges
- Influence-Contacts: How you influence others to your point of view
- Steadiness-Consistency: How you respond to the pace of your environment
- Compliance-Constraints: How you respond to rules and procedures set by others
We all operate in each of these categories every day, but typically we will be strongest in one or two. Our strongest category will influence our behavior and lead to a distinctive communication style; persons with different styles are especially prone to misunderstandings and conflicts. Through our workshop, you will learn the characteristics of your own communication style as well as the other three; you will learn how your communication style is perceived by others, and how to communicate effectively with people who have different styles. You will come away with a deeper understanding of your own communication style, and with tools to help defuse conflicts and promote teamwork.
We believe in the power of tracking results, so we will help you develop matrices for the following key indicators of success:
- Better conflict resolution
- Improved sales
- More effective leadership
- Faster turnaround on group projects
- Increased Productivity
