What Maya Angelou Taught Us About Leadership

Maya Angelou was many things to many people. To me, she was an inspiring role model and courageous leader. In honor of her recent passing, here are some of my favorite “Maya” quotes, all of which are apropos for leaders today. Read them slowly. Think about what they mean to you. And be inspired!

“Life is going to give you just what you put in it. Put your whole heart in everything you do, and pray. Then you can wait.”

“You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.”

“The first time someone shows you who they are, believe them.”

“A leader sees greatness in other people. He nor she can be much of a leader if all she sees is herself.”

“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
