Love Thyself: Invest in Self-Regard This Month
Instead of only focusing on others this month – buying them flowers, giving them valentines, making them feel special – turn some of that attention inward. Love yourself, invest in yourself and work to increase your self-regard.
Self-regard is how you feel about you. It’s a measure of how much you value and respect yourself. In the busy-ness of our daily lives, our individual selves often get lost or buried by a never-ending to-do list.
Let’s change that. Pick one thing that will help you feel better about yourself:
· Joining a weight a loss program
· Reading a book on personal or professional development
· Working with a coach on your leadership skills
· Hiring a personal training
· Meeting with a financial advisor
· Going to therapy (Remember: “The mentally healthy seek mental health.” – Scott Peck, The Road Less Traveled)
Ten years ago, I was in your shoes. I had spent years investing in my children and my business, and I decided it was time to invest in myself.
I hired a personal trainer, who I worked with on strength training twice a week. Even when I was tired or sore, I showed up. I might have showed up late (and got called out for it), but I always showed up for our sessions.
Those sessions not only improved my physical strength and helped me reach my ideal weight - but they also empowered me. I knew I could set a goal and achieve it.
Pick something that will increase your self-regard – from the list above or your own list. Put a date on your calendar for this month and commit to taking action so you can achieve that goal.
