Assessments

Why use assessments?

The use of assessments increases awareness both for the client and the coach. The reports are designed not only to give the client a deeper awareness of him/herself, but also to create actions that reflect his/her behavioral styles.

I use two assessments in my practice.

DISC

The DISC assessment has its roots in time-tested and proven theories based on the works of Psychologist Carl Jung and Dr. William Marston Ph.D. from Harvard University. DISC has followed Marston's model, supported by his famous The Emotions of Normal People, a best-selling classic. Marston focused his work on the behavior of normal people.

DISC is the universal language of observable human behavior. It analyzes behavioral style, that is a person's manner of doing things. A person's natural and adapted styles are analyzed in four areas:

Dominance-Challenge: How you respond to problems and challenges
Influence-Contacts: How you influence others to your point of view
Steadiness-Consistency: How you respond to the pace of your environment
Compliance-Constraints: How you respond to rules and procedures set by others

Marston believed that all people exhibit all four behavioral factors in varying degrees of intensity. As a certified behavioral analyst, I consult with clients on the meaning of their results and create strategies that reflect their behavioral style.

PIAV

Personal, Interests, Attitudes and Values

This instrument measures what values will move you into action. It measures the "WHY" of your actions. What types of activities, conversations and careers will inspire passion within you? There are 6 attitudes based on the work of Eduard Spranger. These attitudes are a type of window through which we view the world and seek fulfillment in life. The attitudes are:

Theoretical: A passion to discover, analyze, systemize through knowledge
Utilitarian: A passion to gain return on investment of time, resources and money.
Aesthetic: A passion to experience the impressions of the world and seek self-actualization.
Social: A passion to eliminate hate and conflict, and assist others to be their best.
Individualistic: A passion to achieve position and to use that position to affect and influence others.
Traditional: A passion to seek out and pursue the higher meaning in life and achieve a system for living.

Once you know the attitudes that drive your actions, you will immediately be able to understand what causes conflict for you. Your true values will be behind the goals you set.

This DISC and the PIAV are available through Total Potential either as a part of coaching or as a separate item for individuals and small businesses.

CLEAN-SWEEP is an ongoing tool designed to increase "reserve" in each of these areas so that clients tolerate less, feel more, and consistently accomplish goals.
